Please join me in an effort to raise money to help relief organizations
to save hundreds of thousands of lives right now in serious danger.
If you have already donate money let me know how can I help.
The following is what I found so far:
The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent
has launched a preliminary appeal for 7.5 million Swiss francs
to assist some 500,000 people and bring immediate support to relief
operations of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies in Sri Lanka,
India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and other countries in the region
after the strongest earthquake in 40 years caused massive tidal waves,
killing thousands and leaving more than one million displaced
and homeless.
Donate to IFRC
UNICEF's Home page has several information and a donation
page for each country affected.
International Rescue Commitee:
Only 150 miles from the epicenter of the earthquake is Indonesia's
Northern Sumatra Provence of Aceh, one of the areas most seriously
affected by the huge tsunami tidal wave this weekend.
The IRC is accepting donations for the victims in Aceh.

Whoo hoo!
Great, thanks Butchergirl, I guess we ll eat tofu for a while...
we are at $500 just on this page.
unfortunately the number of victims rise faster!
I recieved this email from a friend (Johnette):
Hey folks, this is a request from my friend Jeff Albert for donations to buy and deliver water purification treatment for those suffering through the incredible devastation in South Asia.
I've seen a demonstration of the product and it is pretty incredible and Jeff is highly reputable. I figured out that it'll take 100 of you sending $100 to buy ten percent of the stock. So if you give up a few lattes and expensive dinners, you can help save lives. Dysentery and other waterborn diseases will push the death toll past 68,000 very quickly if we don't act now. Think about that.
Also of course, if you do it before the new year, you can get a tax deduction which we all need these days. I know someone already gave a $1000 bucks, but if you don't have it like that, every little bit helps. Make sure you check the links below, donate and let Jeff know via email what your donation was so he can keep things accountable, we want to make sure the $ is going towards water purification and not somewhere else! Feel free to pass this on!
Much love and peace for the New Year.
Johnette
PS. Here is the most urgent information and if you need further background on the tragedy and product, read all of Jeff's email.
WHERE TO DONATE: Americares www.americares.org http://www.americares.org/
American Jewish World Service www.ajws.org http://www.ajws.org/
IMPORTANT: In each case, if you contribute online, please specify in the notes or comments field that you want your money to be directed to "purchase of PUR for water purification in the Bay of Bengal".
WHAT YOUR DONATION WILL DO:
For every $10 worth of this product we can bring to the region, roughly 80 people can be provided with purified freshwater for a week. I and my colleagues at Americares are hoping to bring upwards of $50,000 of worth of this product to the region on this airlift, if not more. That's sufficient to sustain at least 40,000 people for ten weeks.
WHAT TO DO AFTER DONATING:
email me at "Jeff Albert" jeffrey.albert@brown.edu with the amount of your donation if you do give. Naturally, it is a tax-deductible contribution.

Hi all,
Its been in the headlines for a while and so you may have come across this but in case you haven't here are some links to organizations taking donations to help the victims of the tsunami in Asia. A little goes a long way in Sri Lanka, India, Thailand, the Maldives, Indonesia and the Andaman, so please, please help -- and feel free to forward to anyone you may know with a conscience and/or any cash to spare.
Happy new year,
J.

This is from Moveon.org:
Millions of lives are on the line. The U.S. government can lead billions of dollars of aid into the tsunami relief effort, if it chooses. Let Congress and the President know that Americans are supporting strong leadership in this relief effort.
