Wishing in the otherEven though Maud and I don't seem to agree on Sideways, we do both love us some Harry Crews. Thankfully she keeps better track of him than I do, noting that Paul Giamatti's starring in a film adaptation of Crews' immortal (well, not quite, seeing as I've never been able to get my hands on a copy of it) The Hawk Is Dying. The exciting thing is that this movie seems to be happening, unlike other stalled Crews projects. (I can hear Patrick bitching now...."Why don't we ever get any good-looking movie stars down here?") giamatti's cool, but you'd need a jean claude van damme or a paul lynde to get me out of the house these days.
Posted by: patrick at January 14, 2005 10:40 AMSo, is Paul related to the late former baseball commish and Yale prexy Bart Giamatti?
Posted by: Vidiot at January 17, 2005 06:13 PMAnd yes, I could look it up, but dammit, I'm lazy.
Posted by: Vidiot at January 17, 2005 06:13 PMActually, he is. Bart is his dad. And yes, I'm also too lazy to find a cite for that. It was in the New Yorker.
Posted by: dana at January 17, 2005 06:45 PMEvidently, I'm even lazier, because now that you mention it, I remember reading that in the New Yorker and forgot...
Posted by: Vidiot at January 17, 2005 07:06 PMi saw sideways yesterday; it was okay. some things i learned: 1) wine country is hell on earth, 2) wine snobs are the worst people on earth, 3) middle-aged people look gross naked, 4) giamatta needs to trim his freaking nose hair, and 5) the world must be a really dark place full of frightened people who really need a laugh becuase those jokes just weren't THAT funny.
