Don't Be Gentle With Me

Vidiot posts some disquieting news:

Thirty percent -- more than 87 million people -- think that the First Amendment goes too far.

That's not all: 42% say the "press in America has too much freedom", while 41% disagree with the statement that "newspapers should be allowed to freely criticize the U.S. military."

Ack.

i, for one, welcome our new idiot overlords. in fact, i'll be able to blend in perfectly, what with my knowledge of redneck culture.

30% (of lead paint chip eaters) would rather have the government deciding the propriety of ideas?? Why am I not suprised? The results of this survey prove a true "dumbing down" of America.

Think about it: Freedom of expression, including freedom of speech, of the press and of religion, the right to assemble and petition the government all equal power. The First Amendment gives us that power, but sadly, as the poll results suggest, some (who thought Taco Bell was a Mexican phone Co.) believe it's too much freedom for us to handle.

Too bad those 30% (who'd trip over a cordless phone) couldnt just exercise their right to refuse to read, watch or listen to anything they deem offensive.

Word.

In other news, 42% think that Chrissie from Three's Company is "hella foxy."

Which is to say, perhaps our historically low voter turnout rate isn't necessarily the bad thing it's portrayed to be.
