Alright, you asked for it

Hey, while some of us packed for endless hours without any help while nursing the worst headcold of its generation, OTHER PEOPLE ran around at the protest on Saturday throwing soundbites at any Reuters journalist who would listen:

"The thing they all object to is Bush," said demonstrator Reeves [REDACTED], 30. "It doesn't make sense to bomb countries that have nothing to do with Sept. 11."
We're all very proud of him, givin' up quotes like panties at a Tom Jones show.

Hey! Bombing countries is fun. And, even if it was a put-up job, it was still for a good cause. Maybe not giving to the food pantry-good, or earning money to go to the Girl Scout jamboree-good, but still, you know, goodish.

Although even I have to question the wisdom of freeing a people that don't like dogs and cats. Cultural differences, sure, but what the fuck is that about? And also, some people would protest free demerol and clean sheets - there's just a certain percentage of the population that just doesn't feel entirely comfortable unless they have a sign in their hand expressing their uncomfortability.

I demand the censorship of this debate!

Dana, if i was wearing panties, i'd throw 'em at ya. but this thong might be too skimpy to qualify as a panty... further to the above discussion, i did not protest in order to display my level of "uncomfortableness", more like righteous, patriotic disgust at the actions of a morally bankrupt elite busily enriching themselves at great cost to the rest of us. it's only the 2nd protest i've ever attended, after all. you can thank monkey-boy for my newfound radicalism. just now, in the twilight of my years, have i realized that only the outraged voice of a vigilant populace can counter the demagoguery, warmongering, and greed of those who would call themselves "leaders." was that a little heavy-handed. fuck i hope so...

Present company is always, of course, excepted :) I was just observing that some people tend to get overly excited when the demogoguery and warmongering comes from one person, yet tend to excuse demogoguery and warmongery when it's done by someone else. And they often have only a very loose grasp of the issues, which tends to distill down into a rather febrile hatred for and demonization of a particular *person*, despite the complexity of the situations, the myriad points of view, and the rather large group of people - often, amazingly enough, including people who broadly *proclaim* opposing views! - that is required to implement policies of an international scope.

No simple-minded knee-jerk reactionary bush-hater am i. He'll have his own special place in hell, i'm quite sure. in fact i'm smart enough to know they don't let him make any important decisions. Make no mistake, this is a cabal of like-minded radicals, not just one frat-boy driving the ferrari off the cliff. i know all about the AEI and the Project for a New American Century. Cheney, rumsfeld, rice, rove, and, most unfortunately, the formerly moderate Colin Powell are all responsible for this disaster. Because other people wave their ersatz-palestinian flags and chant about mumia at my anti-war rally, does not mean that i too am an idiot. nor does it mean that other radical moderates should stay away from said anti-war rally because their political sensitivities might be challenged. weenies.

Posted by: down with the man, up with reeves! at March 23, 2004 01:29 PM

Mr. Reeves Hamilton, are you saying that "people wave their ersatz-palestinian flags and chant about mumia" are idiots, unlike you, which "know all about the AEI and the Project for a New American Century"?
Are you saying that or I am being misled?
The Great Leader needs an answer.

"idiots" might be too strong a word, Mr. Jong-Il, but those who tote their pet causes around anti-war rallies--the free-palestiners, the free-mumia-ers, the vegans, and all the rest of them--are wasting their energies taking a magnifying glass to a piece of tree bark, rather than standing back for a look at the forest (which is on fire).

but the answer to your question, as phrased above, is "no." by mentioning the AEI and the PNAC i was merely trying to counter the charge that i'm blinded by some rabid personal dislike for one particular leader. which is simply not true. as much as i don't buy his good-ole boy routine, as much as i think he's making fools of us all, as much as i'm embarrassed by his inability to speak in english, it's the monkey's policies which i find most horrid, not the man. in fact, were this man a true traditional-style conservative who enacted traditional-style conservative policies, rather than whacko neo-conservative the-rapture's-right-around-the-corner-anyway wing-nut policies, i'd probably like the guy for his "plainspokenness" and "earthiness".

so, no, i was not suggesting that those people are idiots because i know more than they do. i'm suggesting they're idiots for giving a flying fuck about mumia. i do, however, know more than they do.

therefore, your final answer is both yes and no.

the free-palestiners, the free-mumia-ers, the vegans

You forgot about the bunny-huggers and the pillow-biters...

Doesn't anyone here have a job? Get back to work, people.
